The first thing that comes to mind when I hear the word "multiculturalism" is one of my very best friends from back home, Regine.

Regine and I
|
Although Regine lives a blessed life, it has always been different for her, especially growing up in a town called "White Settlement" Rey comes from a family where her mothers side is Hispanic and her fathers side is African American. Rey has always had it a little different wether any of us realized it or not. Rey's father is a UPS driver and I knew that she was always worried about him while he was at work, not just for the normal reasons of driving around the US in a 18 wheeler, but because of everything that was happening in the world. Things like this have impacted me, and my relationship with Rey's family.

Regine and her family are some of the most kind hearted, loving, funny and caring people i have ever met in my life. They are like a second family to my family and I. After all of the vacations and rangers games together and sleepovers, I have learned more and more about what It is like to be in their place. Although I will never understand all of the culture behind her family, Its always a great time with the Porter family.
Hey Christina! I enjoyed reading your blog post and I can relate to it because I also wrote mine about one of my best friends. Your friend sounds like shes an awesome person and has a great family. It's also pretty great that over the years you have been able to learn from her and her family.
ReplyDeleteYou and Regina are both so beautiful. I think it is so great how she has positively impacted your life. It is also great to see that her family accepted you with open arms. It seems like y'all will be lifelong friends for sure!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures. You girls seem very close and I like how you said that even though you may not understand all the differences in cultures it doesnt matter because you have a great time with the family. It shows you look at their heart and nothing else. I wish more people were like you and could the hearts of people instead of outward appearance.
