Character Study

For this weeks assignment, I chose to analyze my roommate Taylor. I asked Taylor, and her parents what she was like as a kid, and growing up until now. Her father said that she was happy, and wants her way, and forgiving. Her mother said that she was genially happy growing up, and spoiled. From what her parents said, I would 100 percent agree with this. I believe that Taylor is one of the most kind hearted people I've ever met and has a forgiving and loving personality and wouldn't even hurt a fly. I had taylor take a personality test that was offered, this required about 100 questions. One thing that stood out to me was taylor high score on openness, I agree with her high score because she is one of the most outgoing people I have ever met, and has never met a stranger. I believe that this test really was spot on with her personality and It was really cool to examine her personality this way. In addition to this, I believe that through the different theories and models, diff...

M4-Experiential Task

For the M4 Task, I chose to do task 1. Task 1 was based on Behavior Modification-Learning Chapter. Throughout this past week, for the task I had to monitor the amount of times i performed a task or behavior. I chose to monitor the amount of time spent on my phone in one day. This was hard because I would forget to mark how much time I spent on my phone, because its just habit to pick it up and use it, then to just set it down without thinking twice, however, I did my best. I chose to monitor this because I want to spend less time on my phone throughout the day, and enjoy being with people. I waited until after the first day to see how much time I spent on my phone to see what my positive reinforcement was, I decided after spending about 3 hours on my phone, I was going to let myself spend 30 minutes before bed on Pinterest, as long as i spent less then 2 hours on my phone. Most of the time when im on my phone, I am on Pinterest or on social media. Tuesday the 20th was my first day I...

Understanding development across life-span

As a person who wants to work with students with special needs, it should come as no surprise that I chose Dr. Nadine Burke Harris' video to discuss. I am currently in a Educational Psychology class and I have briefly discussed these different things within the class. I think it is amazing that over one day, her entire career was changed and viewed in a completely different way. I also think it is really cool that what changed everything is the fact that a colleague brought her a research study over Adverse Childhood Experiences, which is also known as "The ACE Test." ACE is a research that bases children with a trauma or tragedy from their past that effects their life. The things that fall under this topic are, abuse, parental separation, and substance abuse. These all have a huge impact on a child's brain development. Before this, people were just assuming that these children had learning disabilities of some type, but Dr. Burke changed that perspective in a whole d...

Sensation and Perception

Image
I remember ever since I was a kid having a passion for students with special needs. I have always been drawn in by these students and always wanted to work with them. Growing up as a teachers kid, I knew all the teachers. Because of this, I was always asked to come help in the life skills class. I remember the student I always got to read to was blind. His name was Graham. Throughout the rest of my time in the school district, I always hung out with Graham every chance I got. I chose to write about Echolocation because of my old friend Graham. I always wondered how Graham got around so well, I know he had been used to this life by now, but still! He would go all around the class room handing me book after book with or without his walking stick. After reading this article about echolocation, most of my questions of Graham were now answered. I always noticed he was making noises, wether he was snapping his fingers, making clicking noises with his tongue, or just flat out making random no...

Brain and Behavior

As a child going through school and even now, growing up in a classroom, you're always being told to "stay focused" we are told this often in sports and just in everyday life. In this TED talk by Medhi Ordikhani-Seyedlar he states that it is very hard to be focused on one thing for a period of time. He did a study based on how the human brain pays attention. He states that there are two different types of attention, there is overt attention and covert attention. in Overt attention, he says that you move your eyes  words  something in order to pay attention to it. He states for covert attention, you pay attention to something without moving your eyes. The two both are affected by the back of your brain. After this, he then started to talk about the patterns of the brain, where your eyes direct when something is happening. I liked this video because I have always had a hard time focusing on one thing. My mind is always going in 5 different ways at the same time, so watchin...
